Florida MD licenses renew every two years and expire at midnight Eastern Time on January 31. Licenses in Group 2 expire on January 31 of odd-numbered years — the next one is January 31, 2027. If that is you, there are about four months left.
1. Confirm your expiration date
The Board of Medicine's renewal page links to a license lookup. Check your own date before planning anything: Group 1 licenses expire in even-numbered years (the next is January 31, 2028).
2. Count your hours for this cycle
Florida requires 40 hours of Board-approved CME in the 24 months before each renewal. For a license expiring January 31, 2027, that window is February 1, 2025 through January 31, 2027. Hours do not carry over to the next cycle.
3. Check the mandatory topics
The mandatory-topic hours count toward the 40; they are not added on top. Every renewal includes 2 hours on the prevention of medical errors, and MDs registered with the DEA also need 2 hours on prescribing controlled substances. Domestic violence (2 hours) is due every third renewal. Our Florida MD requirements guide lists every topic with its source.
4. Make sure your credits are reported
Florida checks continuing education electronically before it renews a license. Look at your CE Broker record well before January, so there is time to fix anything missing.
5. Plan once, then keep everything in one place
The renewal planner asks a few questions and shows the hours and topics still open for your cycle.
Requirements change — confirm with the Board before you rely on any checklist, including this one.
