- Physicians registered with the DEA
- Renewal cycle

- The rule
- NRS 630.2535 and NAC 630.156(1): physicians registered to dispense controlled substances under NRS 453.231 (Nevada's controlled substance registration) complete at least 2 hours each biennial period on persons with substance use and other addictive disorders and the prescribing of opioids, AMA Category 1. SBIRT training may count toward these 2 hours (except in a period when the same SBIRT hours are used for ethics). Counts toward the 40. NRS 630.2535(3) still exempts, for one period, a physician who obtains a DATA 2000 registration to treat opioid dependency, but that federal waiver registration no longer exists (ended by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023), so plan on the 2 hours.

- The rule
- Confirm with your Board Codified NAC 633.250(1)(b) (as checked 2026-10-08) still says 2 hours on the misuse and abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids or addiction in the preceding year (annual renewal). Regulation R092-25, adopted by the Board to match AB 56 (2025, biennial renewal), would make it 4 hours each biennium for renewals after December 31, 2026 (2 hours in the preceding year for the December 31, 2026 renewal), but section 7 makes it effective only once the Legislative Commission approves it and it is filed with the Secretary of State, and the online NAC does not yet show it. 4 hours per biennium equals the current 2 hours a year. It applies to every osteopathic physician, not only registrants. Confirm with the Board which figure applies to your renewal.
