First renewal
Confirm with your Board Neither RSA 329:16-g nor Med 402 waives or prorates CME at the first renewal. Med 402.01(d) lets physicians previously licensed in another state continue on an established AMA PRA cycle, and residency counts 50 Category I hours per year (Med 402.01(e)). We plan for the full 100; confirm with the Board. The opioid hours apply "as a condition for initial licensure and license renewal" (RSA 318-B:41, VI).
Credit minimum
Confirm with your Board Med 402.01(a), in the version published online: at least 40 of the 100 hours must be Category I; the rest may be Category I or II (at most 60 Category II). AOA and AAFP credit count toward the 40 only as Category I equivalents (see their notes). Flagged: the Board readopted Med 400 with amendments effective September 6, 2026 (filing #14644); the amended text was not available to read, so confirm the 40-hour Category I split with the Board.
Reporting
You attest on the online OPLC renewal that you met the continuing competence requirements (Plc 308.05(b)(3)); OPLC rules require licensees to use its designated online system to track and report CE (Plc 308.04(b)). OPLC audits 10% of licensees renewing each year (Plc 308.04(d)). Keep documentation for the current license term and the most recent renewal period, about four years (Plc 308.04(c)). Older Board rules (Med 402.02) still describe a paper CME report due February 28 and audits by the New Hampshire Medical Society; the OPLC process now governs. A waiver or up to a 6-month extension may be requested for good cause before the CME period ends (Med 402.03).
Board
New Hampshire Board of Medicine (Office of Professional Licensure and Certification)

RSA 310:8, II: licenses issued by OPLC are "valid for 2 years from the date of issuance", and that term supersedes conflicting board statutes; Plc 308.01 says the same. The Board's own older rules (Med 401.01–401.02) still describe renewal by June 30 and expiration on July 1 of the renewal year, which conflicts — use the date on your license and confirm with the Board. RSA 329:16-g: 100 hours "within the preceding 2 years". Expired licenses lapse one year after expiration (RSA 310:8, III).

Deadline

In New Hampshire, the date depends on your license: two years from the date your license was issued or last renewed (the expiration date on your license).

Credit that counts

  • AOA Category 1-A Confirm with your BoardNot named. Med 402.01(b) accepts activities fully equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 that satisfy the New Hampshire Osteopathic Association's CME requirements; AOA Category 1-A should qualify, but the rule does not say so in those words.
  • AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™Med 402.01(b): Category I courses are those that satisfy the AMA Physician's Recognition Award program, or are fully equivalent and satisfy the CME requirements of the New Hampshire Osteopathic Association.
  • AMA PRA Category 2Med 402.01(a): no more than 60 of the 100 hours may be Category II (lectures not designated Category I, teaching, papers, self-instruction, journal reading and other documented learning; Med 402.01(j)–(n)).
  • AAFP Prescribed credit Confirm with your BoardNot named in the statute or rules. Category I is defined by the AMA PRA program; the AMA accepts AAFP Prescribed credit as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1, but the Board has not said so in writing.
