- First renewal
- Confirm with your Board The rules do not say how many of the 75 hours apply at a first renewal that comes 1 to 13 months after licensure, or 24 to 35 months for a first-ever license. DEA and New Mexico controlled-substance registrants must complete 5 hours in pain management during the first year of licensure (16.10.14.11(E)). We plan for the full 75; confirm with the Board.
- Reporting
- You attest at renewal that you completed the required hours. The Board selects renewals for audit and may audit CME records at any time; keep records for one year after the renewal cycle in which the hours were earned (16.10.4.13(A)). Physicians who cannot document their hours may be offered a settlement (letter of reprimand and $500 fine). A 90-day emergency deferral may be requested in writing by July 1 of the renewal year (16.10.4.15).
