First renewal
Confirm with your Board Rule 1050-02-.12(1)(f)2 exempts only the calendar year in which licensure is issued, and only for someone licensed in the same calendar year they passed the NBOME, COMLEX or USMLE Step 3. The rules do not say how the 40 hours apply when the first renewal comes less than 24 months after licensure; confirm with the Board.
Reporting
You attest on the renewal application; the Division may ask in writing for proof during verification. Keep independent documentation (certificates, letters, AAFP records or transcripts) for four years from the end of the calendar year in which the CME was earned (Rule 1050-02-.12(3)). Missing hours can lead to discipline; the Board's policy adds a civil penalty, make-up hours and ten penalty hours. Waiver requests for illness, disability or hardship must be made in writing before the renewal period ends and before renewing.
Board
Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination

Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 1050-02-.07(1)(a): the renewal due date is the license expiration date, 'the last day of the month in which a license holder's birthday falls' under the biennial birthdate renewal system. Rule 1050-02-.12(1)(a): 40 hours 'during the twenty-four (24) month period ending on the licensee's expiration date.' The Board's 2016 FAQ still describes the two calendar years before the renewal year; the rule now says that licensees whose license expires on or after January 1, 2025 must show CME for the past renewal cycle, not the calendar year (1050-02-.12(3)(d)). The rule has no carryover provision.

Deadline

In Tennessee, the date depends on your license: the last day of your birth month, every two years.
