Board
West Virginia Board of Osteopathic Medicine

24 CSR 1 §4.9: a license is valid for two years and must be renewed by June 30 of the second year; W. Va. Code § 30-14-10(a) says biennially on or before July 1. The Board's 2025 filing refers to licenses expiring July 1, 2026 and July 1, 2027, so both even- and odd-year groups exist. 24 CSR 1 §15.2.7: 32 hours of AOA-approved CME in the preceding two-year licensing period, at least half (16) AOA Category 1 or standard heart saver course hours. A licensee in a residency for more than nine months of the period may submit that instead (§15.6). A 2025 proposal to raise the hours to 50 from 2027 was not adopted; the final rule (July 2, 2026) and the statute keep 32.

Credit that counts

  • AOA Category 1-AW. Va. Code § 30-14-10(b) and 24 CSR 1 §15.2.7: all 32 hours must be AOA approved, and at least 50% AOA Category 1.
  • AOA Category 1-B Confirm with your BoardThe statute and rule say AOA "category 1" without separating 1-A and 1-B; AOA Category 1-B is part of AOA Category 1, so it appears to count. Confirm with the Board.
  • AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ Confirm with your BoardNot named. All hours must be "AOA approved"; the AOA records AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ as AOA Category 2-A, so it appears to count toward the hours beyond the 16 Category 1 hours, not toward them. Confirm with the Board.
  • AAFP Prescribed credit Confirm with your BoardNot named in the statute or rule; counts only to the extent the AOA recognizes it. Confirm with the Board.
