- Med 13.02(1x): at least 2 of the 30 hours must be a course "related to prescribing opioids and other controlled substances". It does not apply if you do not hold a DEA number to prescribe controlled substances when you renew. DSPS: for the 2027 renewal the courses must be AMA or AOA Category 1 but no longer need Medical Examining Board approval (rule amended effective October 1, 2023). Courses taken for the federal DEA 8-hour training count if they meet Med 13.
