- First renewal
- Confirm with your Board Neither A.R.S. 32-1825 nor R4-22-207 waives or prorates CME at the first renewal. Completing an approved postgraduate training program or preceptorship during the renewal period satisfies all 40 hours (R4-22-207(B)). We plan for the full 40; confirm with the Board if your first renewal comes less than two years after licensure.
- Credit minimum
- R4-22-207(A)(1)–(2): at least 24 hours AOA Category 1-A, and no more than 16 hours AMA Category 1. The rule names no other credit type, so AOA Category 1-B and Category 2 do not appear to count.
- Reporting
- You report CME on the renewal application. Acceptable proof is your AOA CME printout or certificates showing your name, course title, provider, category, hours and date (R4-22-207(C)). The Board may ask for documentation. Waivers (disability, military service, absence from the U.S. or circumstances beyond your control) and extensions to no later than May 1 must be requested between 60 days before and 30 days after the renewal date (A.R.S. 32-1825(C); R4-22-207(D)–(G)).

A.R.S. 32-1825: every licensee renews every other year on or before January 1, with at least 40 clock hours of Board-approved CME in the two preceding years. The Board's renewal page says licenses are due December 31 of either even- or odd-numbered years, depending on the license, and that notices go out the last Friday in October. R4-22-207(A): 40 hours in the two years before renewal. A June 26, 2026 proposed rulemaking (oral proceeding July 30, 2026) would amend R4-22-207 and add a CME audit rule (R4-22-208); it was not final when this was checked.
