- Rule 360-15-.01(1)(b): physicians initially licensed by the Board who have not yet renewed for the first time are exempt from the 40 hours. The one-time professional boundaries course and, for DEA prescribers, the one-time controlled substance course must still be certified at the first renewal following licensure.
- Reporting
- You attest at renewal. The Board audits a fixed percentage of randomly selected renewal applications (Rule 360-15-.02); audited physicians must document provider, program, hours, completion date and evidence of AMA or AOA Category 1 credit. Keep attendance records and supporting documents for five years from the date of attendance (Rule 360-15-.01). Tracking in CE Broker is optional; the Board encourages it.

Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 360-15-.01: at least 40 hours of Board-approved CME during the two-year term of the license. 'The license will expire on the last day of the month in which the applicant's birthday falls,' and must be renewed biennially by that date. The rule has no carryover provision.

Rule 360-15-.01(3): physicians without certification in pain management or palliative medicine whose opioid pain management patients are 50% or more of their patient population must obtain 20 hours of CME on pain management or palliative medicine every two years (AMA/AOA PRA Category 1, Board-approved or federally approved CME). These hours may count toward the 40.
Credit that counts
- AOA Category 1-ARule 360-15-.01(2)(b): A.O.A. Category 1 credit. The rule applies to every physician, MD or DO.
- AOA Category 1-B Confirm with your BoardThe rule accepts A.O.A. 'Category 1' without separating 1-A and 1-B. AOA Category 1-B is part of AOA Category 1, so it appears to count; confirm with the Board.
- AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™Rule 360-15-.01(2)(a): A.M.A. Category 1 credit. The rule also accepts ACOG Cognates Category 1 and ACEP Category 1. The licensee must verify approval with the course source, not the Board.
- AAFP Prescribed creditRule 360-15-.01(2)(c): A.A.F.P. (American Academy of Family Physicians) Prescribed credit.
