First renewal
OAR 847-008-0070(1)(b): 60 hours per two years, or 30 hours if you were licensed during the second year of the biennium. The Oregon Pain Management Commission course is due at initial licensure and every 24 months (OAR 847-008-0075), and cultural competency is counted by years licensed (OAR 847-008-0077). Physicians in residency training are exempt from the general and cultural competency requirements.
Reporting
At renewal you report how you met the general requirement (maintenance of certification or CME), attest to the pain management course, and attest to and report your cultural competency hours. The Board audits at random; audited licensees have 60 days from the audit notice to send course certificates (OAR 847-008-0070(8)). Deficient CME brings a $250 fine and 120 days to comply, then a $1,000 fine, and suspension of at least 90 days after 180 days (OAR 847-008-0070(9)). Documentation must show your name, the date, the number and type of credits, and the course name and topic. Keep records where you can produce them; the rule sets no retention period. The Board partners with the ACCME's PARS system for reporting.

OAR 847-008-0005(1): physicians renew registration on or before December 31 of each odd-numbered year. The current registration period is the 2026-2027 biennium, so the next renewal is due December 31, 2027. Physicians in an Oregon postgraduate training program may hold Active – One Year status instead and renew every year (OAR 847-008-0005; the Board's License Statuses page); those licenses expire December 31, 2026. OAR 847-008-0070(1): the CME requirement is measured over the previous registration period. Instead of the 60 hours, an active-status physician may show ongoing participation in an ABMS or AOA-BOS recertification or maintenance of certification program (OAR 847-008-0070(1)(a)); lifetime certification alone does not count.

  • AAFP Prescribed credit Confirm with your BoardNot named in OAR 847-008-0070, which lists AMA Category 1, AOA 1-A or 2-A, APMA-approved sponsors and AAPA Category 1. AAFP Prescribed credit counts only if the activity is also certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit; confirm with the Board.
