- First renewal
- Confirm with your Board Neither Med 13 nor Wis. Stat. 448.13 waives or prorates CME at the first renewal, and Med 14.04 says a license issued during a calendar year is registered for that biennium. The DSPS page does not address new licensees. We plan for the full 30 hours; confirm with the Board if you were licensed partway through the biennium. Three consecutive months of approved postgraduate training count as the full 30 hours (Med 13.04).
- Reporting
- You sign a statement on the renewal application certifying the 30 hours (Med 13.02(1)). The Board audits a random sample every biennium and may ask for proof at any time during the two calendar years (Med 13.06; Wis. Stat. 448.13(1m)). Keep certificates through the biennium for which the hours are required (Med 13.05(2)); we suggest keeping them until the next renewal is accepted. CE Broker tracking is optional: the Board gives a free Basic account and says licensees current in CE Broker automatically pass an audit.

DSPS lists Physician - MD and Physician - DO renewal as 10/31/Odd. Med 13.02(1): certify at least 30 hours completed "within the biennial registration period". The statute (Wis. Stat. 448.13(1)(a)1.) words the window as "the 2 calendar years preceding the calendar year for which the renewal is effective"; the two wordings are not identical, so if you finished hours just before the period began, confirm with the Board. Renewal is through LicensE; licenses obtained through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact renew through the IMLC.

Credit that counts
- AOA Category 1-AMed 13.03(1)(b): programs accredited as the American Osteopathic Association's "Category I" count, for MDs and DOs alike.
- AOA Category 1-B Confirm with your BoardThe rule says AOA "Category I" without separating 1-A and 1-B. Category 1-B is part of AOA Category 1, so it appears to count; confirm with the Board.
- AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™Med 13.03(1)(b): programs accredited as the AMA's "Category I" (recognized by the AMA, AOA or ACCME). DSPS: "30 hours of Category 1 AMA or AOA is required."
- AAFP Prescribed credit Confirm with your BoardMed 13.03(1)(b) accepts AMA or AOA Category I "or an equivalent", and Med 13.05(1)(b) accepts a certificate of CME from the American Academy of Family Physicians as evidence of compliance. AAFP Prescribed credit is not named as such; it should count, but confirm with the Board if most of your hours are AAFP Prescribed.
