- The rule
- Confirm with your Board R. 2.1, as amended in 2026: every licensee with a DEA registration must complete the training required by Section 303 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 823), the federal one-time 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. The Board's page says this training 'satisfies the Board's controlled substance training requirement'. Older summaries describe a separate 5-hour prescribing requirement; the amended rule and the Board's page no longer list one. The 8 hours come from federal law. The rule does not say whether these hours also count toward the 40; confirm with the Board.
