- First renewal
- Confirm with your Board The statute and NAC 633.250 do not prorate CME for a first renewal. The Board halves the initial license fee when a license will expire less than 12 months after issue, but says nothing about CME. We plan for the full 40; confirm with the Board.
- Credit minimum
- Confirm with your Board NAC 633.250 as amended by Adopted Regulation R092-25: renewals after December 31, 2026 need at least 20 hours of category 1A (AOA- or ACCME-accredited sponsor). The adopted regulation is posted in the Nevada Register, but the online NAC (revised August 26, 2026) did not yet show the amendment, so confirm with the Board.
- Reporting
- At renewal you attest to and provide proof of your CME (NAC 633.250(1)); the Board asks a percentage of licensees each renewal for verified evidence (NRS 633.471(3)), and the Board's newsletter says licensees now upload CME certificates in the licensee portal. If CME is short, you may ask for a waiver for disability, military service, absence from the U.S. or circumstances beyond your control (NRS 633.481(2)). A license not renewed within 15 days after the Board's notice expires automatically.

AB 56 (2025) moved DO licenses from annual to biennial renewal: NRS 633.471 now says a license is renewed on or before December 31 of each even-numbered year, with at least 40 hours of Board-approved CME in the preceding biennium. Transition: under NAC 633.250 as amended by Adopted Regulation R092-25, a renewal on or before December 31, 2026 still needs 35 hours attended during the preceding year (2026), including 10 hours of category 1A and 2 hours on controlled substances; renewals after December 31, 2026 need 40 hours in the preceding biennium, including 20 hours of category 1A and 4 hours on controlled substances. The figures here are for the biennial cycle (2027–2028 onward).

Codified NAC 633.250(1)(b) (as checked 2026-10-08) still says 2 hours on the misuse and abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids or addiction in the preceding year (annual renewal). Regulation R092-25, adopted by the Board to match AB 56 (2025, biennial renewal), would make it 4 hours each biennium for renewals after December 31, 2026 (2 hours in the preceding year for the December 31, 2026 renewal), but section 7 makes it effective only once the Legislative Commission approves it and it is filed with the Secretary of State, and the online NAC does not yet show it. 4 hours per biennium equals the current 2 hours a year. It applies to every osteopathic physician, not only registrants. NRS 633.471(13): DOs who provide or supervise emergency medical services in a hospital, or primary care (family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN), complete at least 2 hours within 2 years after beginning that work.
Credit that counts
- AOA Category 1-ANAC 633.250(3): a category 1A course is CME offered by a sponsor accredited by the AOA or the ACCME. At least 20 of the 40 hours (10 of 35 for the December 31, 2026 renewal) must be category 1A.
- AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™NAC 633.250(3) counts courses from ACCME-accredited sponsors as category 1A.
- AOA Category 1-B Confirm with your BoardThe rest of the hours may be any courses or programs approved by the Board (NRS 633.471(1)(d)); the rule does not list which. Confirm that AOA Category 1-B activities count.
- AAFP Prescribed credit Confirm with your BoardNot named. AAFP Prescribed credit from an ACCME-accredited sponsor fits the category 1A definition; confirm with the Board.
