CE Broker is a private company that tracks continuing education for many state licensing boards. For a physician it is one of three things: a system your Board requires before renewal, a free tool your Board offers but does not require, or nothing at all.

From September 1, 2026, the Texas Medical Board joined the states where you cannot renew until CE Broker shows your continuing education as complete. This guide shows where CE Broker stands for each Board we have checked, and what to do in it before your next renewal.

The short version

Board CE Broker What it means at renewal
Texas Medical Board (MD and DO) Required from September 1, 2026 You cannot open the online renewal until CE Broker shows "Complete"
Florida Board of Medicine / Osteopathic Medicine Required (the state's electronic tracking system) The Department may not renew until you meet the CE requirements
Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Required You cannot renew until CE Broker shows the credits and first-renewal courses
Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners (DO) Required You enter your annual CME in CE Broker
Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (MD) The Board's official CE tracking system Confirm with the Board how MDs report at renewal
Georgia, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Michigan, Ohio Optional You attest at renewal; CE Broker can hold your records for an audit
Mississippi One of four Board-approved tracking accounts You keep an account with CE Broker, ACCME, ABMS or AOA

A state missing from this table either does not use CE Broker for physicians or is one we have not confirmed; check your state's guide or the CME requirements by state comparison.

States where CE Broker is required

Texas — new from September 1, 2026

The Texas Medical Board's tracking page says: "Mandatory CE Tracking for ALL TMB licensees that have CE requirements is now in effect." Licensees renewing on or after September 1, 2026 must have an active CE Broker Basic account, report all completed coursework in it, and meet the Board's CE requirements. The Board is direct about the consequence: "Licensees without a 'Complete' status in CE Broker will be unable to access the TMB renewal system."

The Board also says it "will be unable to verify CE reported from individuals or other platforms," so a certificate in your own files is not enough on its own. The Basic account "is always FREE"; paid plans are optional.

Look up your own expiration date with the Board before you plan, and check CE Broker well ahead of it. The Texas CME requirements guide lists the hours and topics, and the Texas MD deadline page shows the dates.

Florida

Section 456.0361, Florida Statutes, tells the Department of Health to run "an electronic continuing education tracking system to monitor licensee compliance," and says the Department "may not renew a license until the licensee complies with all applicable continuing education requirements." That system is CE Broker. The Board's renewal page notes that a free Basic account shows the completion date, subject area and name of each course on your record. Rules for each profession are in the Florida MD guide and the Florida DO guide; if your MD license expires January 31, 2027, use the Florida renewal checklist.

Louisiana

The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners says: "All LSBME licensees are required to use CE Broker to track their CME/CE," and "Licensees cannot renew if the CE tracking system does not show the proper number of credits for renewal or completion of correct courses for first time renewal." A free account is enough. See the Louisiana guide for the first-renewal courses.

Oklahoma

For DOs, the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners says "the licensee is required to enter their annual CME credits in their CE Broker account," and "A paid account is not required." Oklahoma providers report the one-hour pain management, opioid use or addiction course for you. If you were in residency or fellowship during the cycle, or you have no Oklahoma OBNDD or DEA registration, you must enter that exception in CE Broker, and the Board notes that exceptions "must be entered for each CME Cycle."

For MDs, the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision calls CE Broker its official CE tracking system. How MDs must report at renewal is less spelled out on the Board's public pages, so confirm with the Board. Details are in the Oklahoma guide.

States where CE Broker is optional

  • Georgia. The Composite Medical Board partnered with CE Broker in 2023: "While participation in CE Broker is not required, the Board encourages its licensees to utilize the system." A free account is available. Georgia guide.
  • Wisconsin. The Department of Safety and Professional Services says "it is not required that licensees register for an account," but it gives physicians a free Basic account and adds: "If you are ever selected for audit, you will automatically pass if you are current in CE Broker." Wisconsin guide.
  • South Carolina. The Board says to keep your certificates "or use CE Broker to track your CME history, in case of a board CME audit." South Carolina guide.
  • Michigan. LARA calls CE Broker an optional tool for most licensees, but licensees selected for a CE audit are asked to upload their CE there. Michigan guide.
  • Ohio. Tracking CME in CE Broker is optional; you certify completion on the renewal application. Ohio guide.
  • Mississippi. The Board asks you to "maintain an account with a Board-approved CME tracking organization (CE Broker, ACCME, ABMS, or AOA)" and to make sure your Mississippi license is identified in it. Mississippi guide.

How to get your CME into CE Broker

  1. Open a free Basic account at cebroker.com and link every license you hold that uses it. A record only counts for the license it is filed under, so a physician with Florida and Texas licenses should check both.
  2. Check what providers already reported. Many providers report completions for you, but not all do. Look at your course history a month after each course and before every renewal.
  3. Report the rest yourself. Add any missing course and upload the certificate; keep the original either way.
  4. Enter exceptions. Where a Board lets you claim an exemption in CE Broker (Oklahoma is one), enter it each cycle.
  5. Look for the status, not just the hours. In Texas the renewal system checks for "Complete." In Florida and Louisiana, required topics (medical errors, controlled substances, first-renewal courses) must show up in the right subject area, not only as general hours.

Start at least 60 days before your expiration date: fixing a missing course means waiting on a provider or on support.

CE Broker is not your whole renewal

CE Broker tracks the continuing education a Board requires. It does not track your DEA registration, the DEA MATE Act training, board certification, BLS or ACLS, or CAQH re-attestation. Licenses in states that do not use it need their own record; see CME for multiple state licenses.

Never give your CE Broker password to anyone else, including a tracking service. Download your transcript instead when you need to share it.

The renewal planner asks which licenses you hold and shows the hours and topics still open for each, whether or not that Board uses CE Broker.
